Recently I was in Pakistan staying with a friend of mine in Karachi.

My friend had invested some money in National Savings Center, North Nazimabad branch and he used to collect his profit every month from his investment.

It was a Wednesday when my friend prepared to go to the NSC center to collect his profit and I tagged along with him just to give him company.

He dutifully took his parchi with a number on it from the guard who was sitting outside the premises.

When we went inside we were informed that they had no money to disburse as the money truck had not arrived and we were told to come the next day.

We went there the next day and again we were told the same thing. No money truck no profits.My friend got mad as hell and wanted to speak to the manager. No manager present as he was absent from duty.

One of the clerks there gave my friend his mobile number and reqested that he call him first before coming.

Next day we called the clerk but he wouldn’t pick up the phone. We went there anyways only to find the center closed as it was, unbeknownst to us, it was a bank holiday that Friday.

Needless to say we were by now ready to pull our hair out.

The next working day was a Monday. Anyways we went there on Monday and took our parchi number and found out that they at least have the money to disburse. It was a big relief to hear that.

With their archaic manual system and their Khattas with no computers at their disposal, the work was going at turtle pace.

We must have waited for 3 hours and then suddenly we heard a big rumble and the word went out that they have run out of monay again. We all have to wait for the next money truck to arrive. How long that will take nobody knew for sure.

The same evening I had to leave town and left my friend to deal with this incompetent and disgusting organisation.

Where Pakistan is only a domain to get funds on several causes, a cause that is either natural, semi-natural or a totally synthetic one.
